Victoria Falls and the surrounding reserve are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main falls form the highest and broadest sheet of continually falling water in the world. The force of the water creates a thunderous sound and drives spray into the air, covering everything in mist. The locals call it ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’, meaning the smoke that thunders. The mist from the falls can be seen from over 50 kilometers away, creating a mesmerizing sight.

LUNAR RAINBOW

If you visit during March to May, when there is enough spray, you may have the chance to witness a lunar rainbow during the full moon. Just like a normal rainbow, the moonbow appears when water particles in the air refract light. Victoria Falls opens at full moon for three nights, allowing visitors to experience this magical phenomenon. Being there in the first hour after the moon appears provides the best viewing opportunity.

Victoria Falls is a haven for adrenaline junkies. One of the most popular activities is the 111-meter bungee jump from the bridge above the falls, offering an exhilarating freefall experience. White water rafting is also a popular activity, available from August to December when water levels are lower and safer for rafting. Crossing the old iron bridge to the Zambian side of the falls and swimming in Devil’s Pool, a natural infinity pool at the edge of the falls, is another thrilling experience. Additionally, there are activities such as gorge swinging, flying fox, and ziplining over Batoka Gorge for those seeking an adrenaline rush.
